Counting down.....

It's New Year's Eve...the kids are counting the moments until the have their ginger ale drinks to toast in the New Year! They have decorated our kitchen window - with stars, polka-dots, race cars, and a math equation from Matteo to celebrate the New Year. We watched Rudolph's Shiney New Year this morning. The Wilson's are coming over with the girls to join the fun later today. We're going to eat, drink, and be merry with good friends.

The other count down going on today is for our trip to Florida. We leave one week from today - hard to believe! So many fun things to do in Florida - seeing the Mouse, going to Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, visiting with the Blackwells, seeing family and running the marathon.

We run the marathon on Jan 11th. Don went to the doctor yesterday - got some so-so news. His right knee pain is probably due to the early onset of arthritis. However, he did get some good tips on strengthening his muscles, a good ole cortisone shot to help confirm the diagnosis. He does have the green light to do the marathon - and actually is running at this point! So, it is good news that he can still do the marathon. The hardest part is going to be the acceptance of physical limitations and requirements going forward. There is no 'reversing' the arthritis in Don's knee - learning to live with it through exercise and muscle strengthening is the thing to do. As for the marathon - it will be quite the accomplishment to run/walk the event, given what is going on with his knees.

Me....I'm ready to go. I am looking forward to it - can't believe it's here. I won't be anything speedy on the course, but I am ready. The past five months of training and time with my physical therapist since my surgery in April has paid off. I haven't had much trouble with my knee/repaired ACL. I have done my training, covered too many miles/minutes of running to tally, endured ice baths after my long runs, followed somewhat of a healthy diet and I feel great!

Time for me go...I've got to start counting. We're playing hide-n-seek in a few minutes.

Hugs, Happiness and Fun to you all on New Year's Eve!
