Mr. Broadway

Matteo completed his first year of little league baseball this week capped off with a trophy ceremony on Saturday. Coach Joe, a dad of one of Matteo's classmates/teammates, along with Don and several other Dads, had the proud honor to help coach the team.

Matteo really took to baseball this year - seriously got into it. Every morning he grabs the sports page before Don can blink and Matteo checks the box scores. We Tivo the Mariners games so that Matteo can watch the 'fun stuff', as he calls it. Yes, the kid has mastered the fine art of fast-forwarding through commercials and whatnot while watching a sporting event. No, the apple does not fall far from the tree.

As Coach Joe was handing out trophies, he said a little something about each player. He had this to say about Matteo:

"Okay everyone, lets give a big round of applause for Matteo as he comes up here". Matteo's teammates are all clapping and I'm laughing a bit. Note: Coach Joe had previously mentioned
other players as "Mr. Hollywood" because of all their cool sports gear.

Coach Joe then says, "If other kids are Mr. Hollywood, we would have to call Matteo 'Mr. Broadway'. Matteo actually comes up to the plate to bat and calls out to his teammates to cheer for him. Matteo - we love that about you - that you love to feel supported by your team, you have really improved this season and we all love how enthusiastic you are on the field and the bench'.

So, there you have it. Matteo, aka, Mr. Broadway, truly does ask for cheering and support as he goes up to bat. I've seen it - it's funny and strange how confident he is 'out there' in the world. Wonder where that came from.
