Weekend Fun

Had tons-o-fun yesterday. We haven't been out on a date in awhile and managed to get two babysitters for yesterday. I know, we're kinda crazy - it felt crazy. But hey - we had an opportunity to have some fun with two different groups of friends, an adventure in the morning and an adventure at night.

Morning adventure: Tailgating at the UW/Oregon game with some great friends we don't see very often. Oh the fun - football, crisp fall air, conversation, giggles, bloody marys, more laughter, and time with my husband with good friends. Great way to spend the morning. We decided not to buy tickets to the game and headed to the ND game watch. That was not much fun - it was at a stuffy/too nice of a bar for college football on a Saturday. We walked into the place and it felt like we were in a library! Worked out alright - we left early and got home in time to watch the 2nd half with the kids and see ND win. All good.

Evening adventure: After we got Anna to bed and the boys were in PJ's, we headed out to an adult Halloween party. This was a last minute decision to attend this party - we got the sitter for the Saturday night time adventure on Friday morning! We weren't going to do it, knowing we were going to the UW game and then thought, oh why not??! We need some fun!

Let me say this - last time we dressed up for Halloween was in 2000 and Don was Roger Staubach, a Navy Heisman Trophy winner and I was the Heisman Trophy. Fun times.

Anyway, we have plans to attend a family costume/Halloween party on Halloween, so we've been thinking of costume ideas. After getting a babysitter last minute, we went last night as a pair of pirates to a wonderful party. We weren't gone very long, left the house at 8pm and we were home by 11pm. BUT - we had a blast! We met some new people, saw some amazing costumes, ate some great food, laughed, and danced. Let me clarify, I danced. Don smiled & laughed as I bee-bopped with some gal pals, all the while sporting his cool pirate look with a half-empty bottle of rum as part of his costume - hee hee. The family room of this party was the dance floor - lots of people danced, giggled and it was just good fun as the music was the right beat. My favorite costumes: caveman & woman, a retro 70's couple with big 'ole hair, Kiss -yes, 4 people came as Kiss - they looked soooo great, and two guys came as CHIPS - Ponch and John. I could go on and on about the costumes - obviously I thought the creativity in the room was just fun to watch.

Yesterday made me realize that Don and I need to get back to regular date nights. We've been kinda slacking off in that area - not setting up babysitters, not doing date nights at home, as we've been saving some $$$ and have been busy with kid life and Don's work stuff.

Lesson from the weekend: Need to make fun and dates more of a priority in our marriage at the moment. I really do love Don and he just makes me laugh. I think we deserve more of that fun time together. The parenting/work/being-an-adult thing is never ending. However, I think that maybe, just maybe the spirit of dressing up as a pirate (carrying rum!!) needs to happen a bit more often in our world. We're thankful we had the opportunity to share some laughs with friends and channel our inner pirates a bit and raised our mugs to the good things in life - friends, laughter, good times and each other.
