We started off the weekend with a surprise birthday celebration for a friend who turned 40. We were in on the surprise - we had the difficult job of showing up to the restaurant, Olivar, before the guest of honor. I'm happy to say we did our job well. We got there on time, along with two other fabulous couples who were also in on the fun. It was a night filled with amazing conversation, tons of laughter and out of this world food and wine. The hostess and wife of the 40 year old guest of honor, my pal Jen, planned the food and wine menu with the chef. The meal was spectacular, the wine flowed, as did the laughter and funny moments. Birthdays, regardless of the number, should always be a cause to gather for good times. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
Saturday was kinda lazy. We were tired after a late night out, plus Matteo had gotten sick on Friday night, so we stuck close to home and did a few things around the house. I got some alone time with Anna - we went out a finished up a bit of shopping for Christmas that involved heading into Seattle for some Italian food stuffs for dinner plans over the next two weeks.

Today we played some games, watched some Christmas shows, while I made up this recipe of bow-tie pasta, roasted red peppers, peas, pesto, olive oil and parmesan cheese. I thought it would look kinda festive and fun for a potluck Christmas party tonight. We made chocolate covered pretzels and planned our baking fun for tomorrow.
Tonight, I stayed home with Matteo (still kinda sick) while Don took Anna & Dominick to the Christmas party. Matteo & I played scrabble, charades (on his request), and snuggled on the couch until the rest of the family came home from the party. Dominick & Anna shared their stories of fun at the party - cookies, juice boxes, playing and caroling. Yes, they went caroling - love that and that we have friends that think that is a fun family thing to do. I'm only a little sorry Matteo & I missed the party, as we got to hang out and he called the shots for fun. It was special time for us both. Matteo beamed with smiles and excitement tonight, despite being sick.
It was simply wonderful.
