Crater Lake

On the way home from Manzanita last week we made a slight detour. We decided to do a mini road trip and went south to Crater Lake National Park for one night.

And, oh yes, I took the Schulz Family photo in front of the park entrance sign :)

It was all rather last minute and sooooo worth the drive. Oddly enough, we were able to get a room here :

Here they are peeking over the stairs. Loved their excitement over the fact that we had a room with a loft/stairs. They never even noticed there wasn't a phone or TV. Our wow factor: Our bedroom upstairs had a clear, beautiful view of Crater Lake.

The Lodge had this great room, literally called The Great Room, with this cool fireplace. Everywhere you looked winthin the room were comfy chairs & couches. Opposite this fireplace were giant windows and a balcony complete with rocking chairs that overlooked Crater Lake.

Of course, it really was all about seeing Crater Lake.

It was a bit windy the first day....but that's okay....it was still beautiful!

I loved going there, loved that our kids were excited to see the deepest lake in the US, we all marveled at how amazingly blue the water looked, and thought it was cool that the volcano that erupted so long ago created such a beautiful lake and an island within it that is now called Wizard Island.

Oh, and I have to mention that there was snow for the kids to walk on, touch and throw around in various spots. That was hilarious to watch- they couldn't believe it was hot out and snow was on the ground!

And, a highlight for me on the way home - stopping in Bend, Oregon and having lunch at Deschutes Brewery Public House. Cool spot, yummy food, great atmosphere. Check it out if you find yourself down in that part of the world.

It's true, I love exploring new places, love a good road trip (no matter the length), and I am continually enraptured by nature and the fun along the way with my family.

It was a great way to end our Manzanita adventure - adding a little more fun to an already fabulous experience.

That's the good stuff in life for me, baby.
