Reaching New Heights

Funny thing....I am apparently reaching new heights this year. I went the doctor for my annual physical and all that business. Because I had gestational diabetes with Dominick and Type II Diabetes runs in my family, there is lots of focus on my blood work, my weight, and my height. I have spent most of my adult life saying I'm 4 feet 11 1/2 inches tall. And yes I have rounded up and told everyone I'm 5 feet tall. Well they measured my height this time around - apparently I am 5 feet 1 inch tall! Yes, this is note worthy. Seriously, if you thought you were sub 5 feet in height an inch or so would be exciting news! I'm going to celebrate and enjoy the fact that this time around my BMI chart numbers might be a little nicer to me because I'm a whole inch taller! Yes, it makes a difference when it comes to things like avoiding a Type II Diabetes diagnosis.

The sun is shining today and all our kids are off to school this morning. Don and I are having a coffee date at home. We're talking about fun plans over the next couple of weeks along with budget details. Ah yes, it is quite funny to see where Don's mind is wandering in our personal life now that his brain has free time to get into it all. Finance would be one arena - I think he would love to be a day trader. On Monday he spent an hour reading about corn. Why you ask? Because Matteo is participating in the science fair at school. Yes, I've reminded him that it's Matteo's project and not to get all detailed on Matteo's interest in corn kernels and popcorn activities. Matteo wants to see if a regular corn kernels from the can act like popcorn kernels. This weekend will be filled with microwave trials and stove top trials. Photos will be taken, the results documented and presented on a display board. Matteo is so excited about it. And, apparently Don has done his research. Those Midwestern roots are alive and well - Don's upbringing in the land of all things John Deere and corn fields is never too far from the surface.

DUDE. okay, so i have to laugh... because after recent appointments with dr. pruess-nevins, i have realized that i am *not* 5 ft, 3/4 inches tall... i am actually 5 ft, 1-3/4 inches tall.

so, now i am laughing because we both go to the same doctor and have found ourselves an inch or two taller than we thought we were for the past 20 years. so, either we got taller (hard to believe) OR their measuring devices are a bit off. what do you think? are you just going to embrace it as i have and stand a little taller with your head held high?

happy friday!
