Facts

It's June, far more rainy than normal, and I'm making a pot roast in my new Le Creuset pot. Nice, that I get to use my cool Mother's Day gift, depressing in that I'm soooo OVER the rain. It's June and I want a pot roast for dinner?! The weather has apparently transported me to an October cooking menu.

The school year is coming to an end. I'm relieved that my self-inflicted choppy schedule with half day kindergarten and preschool is about done. I am really looking forward to having the kids home and playing more vs. shuttling to and from various schools.

Matteo finished up his season as a Yankee this past Saturday, complete with great batting and a fantastic catch in the 5th inning.

Dominick's T-ball season also ended on Saturday, providing great fun for our little Angel. He loved being on a baseball team and always dressed old school - pants hiked up to his knees, socks pulled up. He did this on his own, along with occasionally switch hitting as a lefty 'because I like to'.

Anna had her dance recital on Saturday night. It was such a cute, endearing performance to see our little girl have her 'moment', after being on the baseball fields for the past several weeks for the boys. Matteo & Dominick made her signs and gave her flowers after her performance. It was a sweet night.

As the school year comes to an end, I find myself thinking about things that I thought I would do in this school year. Some of it happened, some of it didn't. I thought I'd schedule more play dates for my kids. I tried to bond with this concept of play dates, didn't happen but a handful of times. With three kids, family life, and some kid commitments, there just isn't always time to do that in our household. Plus, I selfishly like having my kids around our home and each other. That will change, I know, as they get older they will want to get out more. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I had some luck and good balance this year with not over committing myself to volunteering or doing too much. That has been a good thing for me - more peaceful time vs. running here, there everywhere.

I thought I'd know more Italian, as I was going to do more self study and chatting in Italian at home. Didn't happen.

Haven't been as social and out and about as last year. I'm good with it, as I have found this past school year a good time to be home more often as a Mom and wife. I sometimes think we should do more inviting to gather with friends, but for right now, things are good with just doing our thing.

Summer is here, so says the calendar and countdown to the last day of school. The weather says otherwise, but I'm looking forward to it!

I recently started an orthodontic treatment plan, with invisalign (clear aligners) to correct some bite/enamel wearing away issues I've had for years. Decided now was the time due to conversations with Matteo's ortho and a 'sale', along with good insurance. So, yes, I'll be lisping around for a bit, but apparently the longevity and health of my teeth will benefit. Not to mention, my teeth will get straightened in the process. In a weird way, feels good to take care of myself even if it makes me feel like I'm a 15 year old wearing retainers.

We're deep in conversations about Don's job search, escaping reality with trips, wondering what the future will hold and trying to just have faith. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's very, very hard.

Looking forward to the Rock-n-Roll Seattle Half Marathon in a couple of weeks. The training runs are getting longer and unfortunately, have been very wet lately. Should be a fun run, have always wanted to do a Rock-n-Roll running event. The music/bands should make it all a bit more entertaining.

We're not having our Taste of Chicago Party this year. Felt like too much work to schedule it and plan for it. We're taking a year off from hosting this party, which has gone on for the past 4 years. Sorry folks, we're not serving Chicago eats, we'll be traveling a bit in June and just opted out of doing it this year.

It's been a good school year. We've watched Matteo find his groove, although the year started out kinda rough navigating social challenges at school. Dominick bounced right into kindergarten without looking back. Anna has loved preschool, every minute of it, and is always happy to be there.

As the school year ends and summer begins, I'm lost in reflections and a bit of cleaning out the old to make new for the summer fun. This feels appropriate to me, given the end of school and kids out growing various toys, clothes and whatnot.

In closing, our life at the moment includes that Don will be working somewhere new, at some point soon. We hope! It's vague, but true. In the meantime, we're all about connecting as a family and planning for fun with the kids. I believe that as along as we're okay as a family, we'll be okay no matter what the future holds. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
